4.23.23 Sermon Afterthoughts
Greetings Church Family,
What a glorious Sunday we had together as the family of God! It is always a wonderful start to the day as we celebrate baptism with our brothers and sisters. Even as we walked out of the service, I was approached by a man who has been visiting with us for quite some time and he told me he knew it was time for him to be baptized and become a part of this church. I had another visitor tell me how encouraged his family has been by worshiping together with us at First Baptist. He made the statement that word is getting out that God is moving at FBC. I tell you that because I want you to find encouragement in the fact that you are seeing people you probably don't recognize. Likewise, I want you to be encouraged to remedy that on a Sunday morning. Go and greet those you don't know and let them know they are welcome among us.
This very day, the most important thing about you is what you believe about God. So.....what's the answer? Who is He? Who is He for you? What promises has He made to you? How does He see you in Christ? Is He pleased with you? How has He called you to live and speak and treat others? How does His Spirit enable you to obey? What are you believing about God? Let's be honest, there is great benefit in taking the time to simply be still and know that He is God. You and I need that today.
Taking this time will also help to protect us from falling in the ditches of antinomianism or legalism. Taking time to see God rightly in His Word will prove to us that he doesn't need our help with His Word or His law for He is, as this Sunday's text says: The King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God (1 Tim. 1:17). So, brothers and sisters, Keep close watch on yourself and on the teaching (4:16). Be careful what you find yourself believing and fight the fight of faith by continually pouring over the Word of God. It is enough for He is enough and, by the blood of Jesus Christ, so are you. Below are some questions for you to consider:
1. In what ways might you find yourself struggling with lawlessness/ legalism?
2. How can you practically start your day setting your mind on who God is?
3. How have you found your relationships at church point you to a proper view of God? How have you sought to point others to Him?
4. Whom has God placed in your life that needs to see God and how will you pursue that goal?
Grace and Peace,
